Jason Matheney joined the Employment Security Department on March 1, 2018 as the Administrator for the WorkSource Affiliate on Joint Base Lewis McChord. Prior to joining the Employment Security Department, Jason served as the Work Force Development Project Manager for the Department of Defense Soldier for Life Transition Assistance Program, and as the Veteran Services Coordinator for the VA Grant Per Diem Program for the Low Income Housing Institute in Olympia Washington. Jason holds two (2) Master Degrees in Project Management and Emergency Management Services from Columbia Southern University and various Work Force Development certifications. Jason was medically retired from military service as a United States Army Paratrooper in 2014 after 22+ years for injuries sustained during combat operations. Jason is a combat veteran with four (4) deployments to Eastern Afghanistan. Jason’s focus since retirement has been continuing to serve the military community by providing purpose, direction and motivation for Active Duty Service Members, Spouses and Veterans that need help getting back on the right azimuth to achieve their personal and professional goals. During his free time Jason volunteers as a Veterans Advocate in Thurston County, as well as a Veteran Service Officer for the American Legion; assisting Veterans with Veteran Benefits and filing Disability Claims. Additionally, Jason volunteers as an assistant football coach for the Thurston County Youth Football League, Olympia Bears Organization.
