Jacqueline Garcia has worked for the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development for the past 17 years. Jackie began her career as a Case Manager for the State of Alaska in the Welfare to Work Program at the Kenai Peninsula Job Center. She quickly realized the importance of On-the-Job learning for customers and volunteered to become the Job Developer for the Welfare to Work Program. The success of this effort resulted in Jackie’s selection for apprenticeship specialist training.
After completion of the foundational training, Jackie assisted many Welfare customers to attain employment through apprenticeships. Jackie subsequently became the Business Connections Specialist for the Peninsula/Gulf Coast and Southwest Alaska, which enabled her to broaden her outreach to all customers and employers and continue to promote apprenticeships for various industries. During this time, the US DOL Office of Apprenticeship continued to provide support and advanced training.
Jackie recently accepted a promotion to the Statewide Apprenticeship Coordinator position where she now oversees the Apprenticeship USA investments, and continues to work with US DOL Office of Apprenticeship to build new programs in healthcare and other industries; and to work with employers, schools, and associations in promoting apprenticeship across Alaska.
